Out With the Old and on With the New

This year is almost over...still having a hard time believing that. What a fabulous year for Fauf. Let's a journey back and take a look at the highlights of 2009!

Jan: rang in the new year wondering what adventures lay ahead, and resumed my annual resolution to read at least a book a month
Feb: bought and moved into the Manor and finally felt settled in life
Mar: taught Performing Arts for the first time in my life and found it exhausting but fun
Apr: turned 27 and started checking for gray hairs and wrinkles (thankfully have not really found any yet)
May: attended my new sister-in-law's bridal shower and praised God for choosing her for Eric
Jun: watched my little brother get married and was thankful I was no longer the only married sibling in my family
Jul: published Sherlock Academy and watched my hubby and God make my dreams come true
Aug: went to Rome and finally saw the Sistine Chapel--it rocked my world
Sep: started a new school year at some new and some familiar schools and marveled that I still get paid to do what I do--it's too much fun
Oct: had my first author visits at two schools and watched a fan base form for Sherlock Academy--very surreal
Nov: wrote a first draft for Sherlock Academy 2, the sequel and was excited by it
Dec: first Christmas in the Manor (it dresses up well) and made plans for London in 2010

Eight Days of Christmas Update

We're little more than half-way through our Eight Days of Christmas gift-giving tradition between me and my hubby. It's by far one of the best traditions we've ever come up with. We started it the year we got engaged, so this is our fourth year. For each day we assign a theme and give a gift according to that theme. This year we went with parts of Disneyland, doing a "land" each day. Here's the list of gifts so far.

Day 1 Main Street: a stove-top popcorn maker (so I can make my own Disney-status popcorn at home)
Day 2 Adventureland: the Twilight books (they're full of adventure)
Day 3 New Orleans: lunch at Chef Rick's (get a taste of that good ol' Cajun food)
Day 4 Frontierland: gift certificate for kayaking in Morro Bay (close enough to a canoe)
Day 5 Tomorrowland: Arrested Development Season 1 and a day planner (for future enjoyment and planning)

Christmas Wishes

The best kind of wishes
Are just old fashioned wishes
May your days be merry
May your sorrows be small
May the ones you love be with you
That's the happiest wish of all!

Merry Christmas from the Fauf to you and yours!

Fantasy Lunch Dates

I have a list of fantasy lunch dates, of celebrities I would choose to have lunch with if I could. This list is based on celebrities I find interesting, or somewhat down-to-earth, or who I might find some thread of commonality with. I would meet them at a swank restaurant for lunch (they would pay, of course), and we would chat. And I do believe we'd become friends, enough for me to brag about. Here's my fantasy list:

1. Jennifer Gardner (have you seen her on Jay Leno? Way cute and down-to-earth)
2. Nick from Project Runway Season 2 (I saw him in person at the Emmy's and he was so personable)
3. Natalie Portman (she seems genuinely nice and she works Crosswords!)

There's the current list, though there are always new candidates...

On the First Day of December...

Hooray for December! It's officially the Christmas season. Thanksgiving and November are behind us, and December and the holidays are before us. What a wonderful time of the year. The Manor is glistening with Christmas magic, my iPod is loaded with Christmas tunes, and there is a stack of Christmas DVDs waiting to be watched. Here's our holiday movie list. Feel free to add suggestions.

Home Alone 1 & 2
Holiday
Last Holiday
Narnia
How the Grinch Stole Christmas (both versions)
Miracle on 34th Street
Little Women
Santa Clause
Four Christmases
Dream Girls (New Year's Eve movie)
